Welcome to Dance Class - Memo
Welcome NEW STUDENTS to your Dance Classes, I’m Ms. Lisa. I have been teaching since 1985 and hope you learn some new dance skills and improve as a dancer. To make it a positive learning experience for all of us, I ask that the students show the proper respect at all times to other students in class and the teacher. If the utmost respect is not given, I will speak to your parents about having a positive attitude in class and encouraging this at all times. Learning to dance is fun, so lets have fun together!
Inclement Weather or Ms. Lisa is Ill: In case of severe weather or if Ms. Lisa is ill, classes will be cancelled and the session will be extended.
Missing a Class? Let Ms. Lisa know and she will allow you to make up your missed lesson. Make up lessons can be done in a different style of dance, within the child’s age range. Make up lessons are for currently enrolled students who's balances are paid. No refunds for missed lessons.
When Entering the Studio Space:
Students & Parents may enter the building 5 minutes prior to their class time or when the class prior is exiting the building. Enter quietly with no distractions. Do NOT wear your dance shoes outside as this brings dirt onto our professional dance floor. No street shoes on the dance floor.
Ages 2-4 parents: plan to stay in the lobby or right outside. If we need you, you should be a stones throw away.
Ages 5-9 may be dropped off, please escort them to and from the building.
Age 10 - older may be dropped off without an escort. 10 & older may enter the studio space when they arrive, and sit quietly in the lobby.
Restrooms: Please use the YHG restrooms prior to entering the building. They are located in the building across from our entrance.
Parent Observation: Parents may sit in during class time, as long as they are quiet and do not disrupt class. Please no coaching your age 5 and older child. However, parents are allowed to speak up if their child is misbehaving. Photos & videos are allowed. Parents may also wait outside in the courtyard at YHG and be at the door when class is finished.
Classroom Behavior:
Children ages 2-4: All children of this age have different levels of classroom focus. If you notice your child is not following directions and causing a distraction in class, please call them over and ask them to follow directions. If they continue to disrupt the class, you have two options: take off your shoes and join the class or remind them they need to follow directions or they will have to go home. If they continue to be a distraction, then we ask you pull them from class for the day. Setting boundaries will help your child grow. Some children are not yet ready for dance, in this case, the teacher will let you know and then invite them back in 3 months to try again.
Children age 5 & older: the utmost respect is required at all times. Students who are disrespectful will be asked to sit out of class, have a discussion with the teacher and parent after class so that positivity comes from moving forward.
Sticker Book: The teacher will provide a sticker book to collect stamps and stickers each class. Please bring this every week. If you lose your book, it is the parent's responsibility to make their child a new book using paper from home.
Yard Toys: You may use the studio yard toys prior to class. Please place them in the basket when you are done. Students playing with toys need to respect the other businesses near the studio. If the toys are thrown at patrons, strangers or restaurant staff, then children will lose their yard toy privilege.
Inside Toys: We have a small container of hand held toys to occupy parents/siblings while their children are in dance class. Remember, the toys are owned by the studio and you are not allowed to take them home. No toys in dance class, as this becomes a big distraction. Please remember not to put the toys in your mouth, thank you.
Monthly Tuition: Classes are held based on a monthly tuition, which is typically 4 weeks in length. Classes meet once a week. On the last week of each month, students pay a $10 per class deposit to hold their spot for the new month. All balances are due week 1. No refunds for missed classes. If tuition isn't paid by week 2, the students will be removed from class and their spot will be given to someone on the waiting list. All deposits paid will be forfeited.

Dance Shoes: Dance shoes are delicate and it is vital that you only wear them inside, wearing them outside will track in dirt and damage them. Need Shoes??? Ms. Lisa sells ballet slippers and she has them in stock ($25). Jazz Shoes can be purchased online through Amazon or ordered through Ms. Lisa.
Performing Opportunities: Local events are scheduled throughout the school year. Performances are optional and students may be required to wear a specific color of dance wear or a color scheme, typically black or pink leotard with light pink footed tights. A year end stage performance will be scheduled each June to showcase the skills we have learned from the school year.
